I'm probably offensive to a good 99.9% of the world's population in one way or another.
Me: Libertarian, vegan, atheist- I don't eat meat, I don't believe in gods, and I think people should be allowed to do pretty much whatever they want by the government just short of total anarchy.
That said, I do enjoy debate.
Controversial issues (copied a generic list from somewhere):
"Abortion Rights"
Pro-let people do whatever they want. As long as people aren't aborting fetuses in the streets and leaving them lying around.
"Gambling"
Gambling is a stupid tax- I think it's a great source of state revenue in the form of a lottery
As long as it's in the privacy of somebody's property, people should be able to waste their own money.
"Population"
We wouldn't have such a population problem if we quite paying people to have kids, and coddling people. With all of the regulations today, natural selection has really taken a dive. It's too difficult for people to kill themselves off.
I say we install big red buttons on every street corner that say "Don't push" and are hooked up to 10,000 volts.
Oh natural selection, how I miss the.
"Adoption"
It should be perfectly legal to trade babies like baseball cards.
"Gangs"
Violent criminals should be destroyed. People should be able to do whatever they want in their own houses, but when other people go so far as to do what they want in other people's houses, that's a nice line.
If we didn't have entrapment laws, Gangs could be cleaned up much more quickly.
"Pornography"
I'm not into it, but what ever people want. Censorship = bad.
"Affirmative Action"
I think it has run it's course. Tax money shouldn't be used for social programs- it just creates resentment.
If tax money must be used, direct it by income and duration of national heritage.
"Genetic Engineering"
GE= good and potentially very useful. The press' fear mongering annoys me to no end. If you need proof, just take a look at Blumwald's tomato.
"Poverty"
Poverty is natural, but avoidable by implementing efficient systems of indentured servitude.
No tax money needed.
"Alcohol"
Let people kill themselves if they want to- with that or any drug. Driving under the influence aught to be treated as premeditated attempted murder though.
"Global Warming"
So? We aught perhaps to moderate ourselves, but people give nature far too little credit. Extinction is a normal thing, and the biodiversity on the Earth today is higher than it has ever been.
I would like to see a DNA bank archiving all of the species we have for future use, but within a few hundred years of a climate change there will be new species to fill in any gaps, and the overall biomass of the Earth will be higher due to the rising temperatures.
"Prayer In Public Schools"
Children can sleep in class, they should be allowed to prey in class- but neither should ever have special time allotted to it.
"Animal Experimentation"
I don't like it, but it's not my place to tell people what not to do when it isn't directly effecting me. We would get more use out of human experimentation though.
"Gun Control"
How about a free gun program? If everybody were armed, crime might just drop a bit.
As soon as the government takes away any weapons from the people (especially essential military grade weapons) it takes away the ability to revolt when it becomes unjust.
"Prisons"
Waste of money and space. Courts should rule a term or indentured servitude. The convict should get chained up, fitted with GPS implants, and sent off to the highest bidder to work.
Take that money, and give it to the victims.
"Animal Rights"
Animal welfare is a nice idea, and while I support encouraging people to show compassion with words, I don't believe in government regulation- it should be a choice.
"Hate Crimes"
A crime is a crime. When we include the emotional context in the ruling, we are implementing thought crimes. All violent crime should be punished more strictly in my opinion.
"Racism"
I don't support it, and I'm not, but people have the right to think whatever they want about whoever they want.
"Bioethics"
The government needs to stop getting in the way of valid scientific progress. Let the people decide what they want. If a company behaves badly- boycott it's products!
"Health Care"
Shouldn't be free. If people can't afford insurance, they should sign into indentured servitude to get what they need.
"Capital Punishment"
In the case of rapist and murderer types, don't kill them- lobotomize them. It's not cruel- one simple little procedure and they're brain dead.
Killing is wasteful of a perfectly good body. A lobotomized body works just fine for most medical testing. If a rapist can cure aids instead of being buried, I'm all for it.
"Homosexuality"
As I've said, the government needs to leave people alone. I don't believe the state should grant marriages at all- to anybody- ever.
Want to get "married", then go to a church or something. It's not the government's business who is or is not hooked up.
"Sex Education"
Generally a good idea for the inhibiting population growth. Also, handing out free chastity belts to the conservatives might be a good alternative for them. Abstinence education is useless on teens- but a quarter inch of steel does wonders.
"Censorship"
Censorship = bad.
"Human Rights"
Any human should have the right to sign away his or her rights if he or she wishes to do so. Currently, we can't.
"Child Abuse"
What is and isn't child abuse is a matter of opinion. I think lying to one's children is abusive (Santa Clause, Easter bunny, Religious literalism, etc.) because it gives them strange ideas about reality. That's my opinion- and my opinion shouldn't mean anything for another parent's child.
it should be up to the parents to raise their children, not the government looking over their shoulders.
"Immigration"
Borders should be secure as far as who gets in (although never against who is let out). If we need work, we should stop pretending that we don't want them. Make it easier for immigrants to come in without citizenship. If we don't need them, close the borders to anybody who isn't helpful.
"Smoking"
Not within three feet of me please. It should be up to the owner of the business as to what they want.
"Cloning"
There are enough people already without copying them. But if it gets you off to clone yourself, go ahead.
"Internet Privacy"
Doesn't exist. People should stop pretending.
"Stem Cells"
Could be very useful, and of course shouldn't be illegal in any way. The grant prohibition is ridiculous.
"Crime Victims"
Should get money from the company that purchases the criminal's labour contract.
"Juvenile Offenders"
People are more effort to change than is usually worth it in my opinion. We can not be guaranteed the offense don't be repeated. There should not be a distinction between children and adults where violent crimes are concerned.
"Steroids"
Professional sports are stupid anyway. They can make whatever private rules they want, but nothing should be illegal to put into one's own body with the possible exception of nuclear bombs or plague cultures.
"Media Violence"
It gets viewers. So?
"Suicide"
People should have every right to kill themselves in whatever way they want.
"Drug Legalization"
Yes. All of them.
"Terrorism"
The ONE thing the government should actually take responsibility for. Don't let terrorists into the country. The government should do it's best to break up terrorist organizations within the nation. What happens elsewhere is not our business.
"Eating Disorders"
Not my business. Eat in whatever order or disorder you want- just don't spill anything on me.
"Welfare"
Community charities done because the community members choose to give= good.
Government handouts = bad.
"Endangered Species"
Catalogue them. We can bring them back later if we feel like it if there looks to be a place for them. Species evolve constantly- we don't have a limited resource of biodiversity.
"Euthanasia"
If somebody really wants to die, I find it unethical not to help them. I don't think the government should have any business in making compassion a crime.
